Right.
I'm definitely moving from Livejournal to Wordpress. New address is:
http://cfrankdavis.wordpress.com
I haven't actually written much at the new Wordpress site. It may take a few days before I get into writing stuff. For now I've just been trying out different templates, and the text editor it's got. So the look of it will change around a bit. I'll probably keep it a bit like the Livejournal page (whose text font and size I've grown accustomed to). i.e. simple.
Wordpress all seems to be much more slicker than Livejournal. And it seems there are more features available.
Commenting should be easier. No captchas (that I've seen yet anyway). At the moment it's set for people to put name and email address (just like WUWT). If people want to comment anonymously they can just put "anonymous" and a silly, made-up email address like "anon@anonymous.org". It doesn't seem to check email addresses. Comments have the usual HTML italic, bold, and stuff.
There's an option to import from Livejournal to Wordpress, but it might take a long time, given some 500 Livejournal posts and quite a few images. Whichever way, I'll leave the Livejournal stuff as it is. Except maybe switch off comments after a while (not yet anyway).
I probably won't post here any more.
So long Livejournal.

Leg-iron had a Livejournak blog for a long time, and then moved to Blogspot, but kept his old Livejournal blog in being.
I may also copy the entire blog to Wordpress, so as to keep it all together.

I'm self-hosted at http://slamlander.caselle-vpn.net
Also, I use LiveWriter to post to my WP blog. Formatting get very good that way. You are in trhe UK and I'm in Switzerland. If you want help send email to slamlander at caselle-vpn dot net. I'll be very happy to help you with plugin selection and whatnot.

Sentimental Journey

I got to thinking about how I discovered your blog and Leg Iron's and all of the ten or so UK blogs I now read on a must-do and daily basis. All of them gleaned from your blogrolls. It was through Livejournal.
Every now and then I try to reconstruct how I first stumbled onto Leggy's blog, which in turn led to your blog, both of which were originally Livejournal blogs. As best as I can recall, I think I was trying out a Livejournal search, with all of its frustrating flaws, and somehow ended up at Leg-iron's musings on how the Righteous incrementally foist a nanny state upon us all. I recall it concerned how the smoking-only carriages on trains gradually went from the whole train to one, to none. I was spellbound by his writing ability. I hit the now familiar Livejournal 'previous' button and kept reading and reading and reading.
Man, this guy is good, said I to myself. He's writing about the stuff I write about, but about ten times better than I do. At this point in time I was an Americacentric guy unaware that the Nanny State was such a worldwide phenomenon. I left a comment on his page after wikipedia-ing LibDems and coming away with the impression that they were anti-Nanny State. To which you replied:
14th Oct, 2009
95% of Lib Dem MPs voted for the UK complete smoking ban. Nothing libertarian about that. Nothing liberal about it either.
The Liberal Democrat party is actually a fusion of two parties - the old Liberal party, and the Social Democratic Party which was formed about 30 years ago -. In the fusion process, it would appear that the Liberal bit got lost.
I clicked on your Livejournal icon and got whisked away to your blog and similarly thought; man, this guy is good. 517 days later here we are.
I originally discovered Livejournal through this community Pro_Smokers -
the community for those who smoke and LIKE IT
You guys made a dedicated anglophile out of me. We're all in this together. OK, enough buttery 'those were the days' ramblings from me.

And I used to be a big reader of US blogs about 5 years ago, when there weren't many UK blogs. Because US politics used to seem much more interesting than UK politics. Now I've lost interest in the USA, although I still read a few US blogs now and then. I guess that with the smoking ban, everything changed.

Our pro-smoking blogs (the few that exist) seem tepid in comparison. Dime-a-dozen arguments and insults consisting of the same 50 or so words are constantly hurled and recycled. There's one thing for certain, you guys write circles around us.
Are there any good USA smoking blogs you do read? I know of only a handful of them.
You are mistaken. Let's discuss.
